Warden Punisher of the Road (#7597)

Owner: 0x9A86…1586

Nobody knows the name that Warden Punisher was given by his parents. Nobody even knows who his parents are, or where he came from. But all those who cross Warden Punisher's path know that he has a strict sense of right and wrong. And for those who do wrong, well, he must punish them. It is his duty.

The person who became Warden Punisher was abused quite a bit as a boy. As soon as he was old enough, he ran away from his broken home in a small village of no importance and disappeared into the wild.

When he rejoined society, he emerged as a strong young man carrying a large wooden war hammer, with a bursting desire to enter the field of penal reform. The prison corps will take pretty much any bag of meat they can get. Job attrition is high. So are workplace injuries... or deaths.

Punisher did well. He showed no mercy towards the prisoners. If you broke the rules, you were punished. He was a zealot for dishing out punishment. The prisoners feared him, and obeyed. That's when people started calling him Punisher.

He worked his way quickly up the ranks. After just a few years he became a Warden. The recividism rates of his prisoners was unheard of. He put all the other wardens to shame. His secret? The prisoners were punished until he was sure it was impossible they could offend again. Kind of hard to keep being a thief when all the bones in your hands have been pulverized to dust. Not even magic could put them back together again.

He also gave all prisoners a stern talking to before they were released back into society. The message was simple. If they break the rules, he would find them, and punish them.

Things were good for Warden Punisher for quite a while. He was reaping hefty bonuses for keeping the prisoners in check and had and endless supply of nasty people and creatures to punish with his hammer. He was given a prison out in the sands where the filthiest criminals and scum from all over the runiverse were sent. Warden Punisher could handle them.

But, all good things usually come to an end. Warden Punisher was TOO good at his job. Year after year, he made the other wardens employed by his prison corp look bad. They pleaded with him to ease up a bit, but warden Punisher was unyielding. He didn't even care that he was reaping the lion's share of the corp's bonus payments, but the other wardens did. They cared a lot.

So like most effective idealists, Warden Punisher was in the end brought down by the combined jealousy of men far less than himself. The other wardens hatched a plan to instigate a massive riot and uprising at Warden Punisher's prison.

Rather than let the prisoners escape, Warden Punisher simply ordered his guards to kill them all until they regained order. This was quite effective, but it was very bad for the corps bottom line. Some of the slain prisoners had ties to powerful entities. They weren't the type of prisoner who was supposed to be killed in a prison riot. But Warden Punisher never cared about politics. He only cared about punishment.

In the aftermath of the riot, Warden Punisher was fired from his position and blacklisted across all the prison corps. He would never find work in the prison industry again.

But for Warden Punisher, this wasn't the end. It was simply the beginning of a new wave of punishment. For there were still many criminals out and about in the Runiverse, and bounty hunters were always in great demand.

In fact, Warden Punisher wasn't even that upset. He simply added all the executives and wardens from the prison corps who had conspired against him to the list of people who needed punishment.
