On the Shore

With barren feet I drudge the shore of my despair,
Until that fair tower it grew above me there.

Dark as a fallow fire ensconced in power,
I died in shadowed twilight of that hour.

The purple flowers all withered in the night:
Around thy throne, a lonesome tremulous sight.

Held here a power in a labyrinth of light—
Until it heard again the mercy of the Night.
