Hedge Wizard Durm of the Temple (#7024)

Owner: 0xd8F9…773C

Durm of the Temple

A hedge wizard 'of the Temple' you say? "But that's not possible! Hedge wizards are self-taught, isolated, low caliber 'wizards'" you may say. Who would dare think that a minor hedge wizard, perhaps not a wizard at all even, would be allowed into the halls of any house of learning, much less that of one of the Temples of the Realm!

Well yes, for the most part, hedge wizards are kings of motivation, driven by their own curiosity, and limited (very often) by their own means. So it takes a bit of luck to 'ascend,' as the public may infer, to the ranks of *Wizard, * wizard, rather than just 'hedge wizard.' But Durm, like his time - honored brethren, is a driven creature, born simple, but risen to some greatness through his persistence, courage, friends, and pure luck...

Durm, or 'Drum' as many of the masses of common folk that he served in his first life called him, cannot tell you his tale. While he has written accounts of all of his many adventures and discoveries, Durm is a prisoner to his own success. If you encounter him at a pub, at a formal dinner, or pretty much anywhere, you would note that he is always accompanied by a few special things. For now, let us see the person always at his side. A hermit always with a companion? Yes. You see, Durm will hire scribes to take account of all outings, in the event that something special occurs. He also, for all accounts, maintains a vast library of his own daily journals. He's kept them for centuries.

A vast library, concealed ironically by hedges, can be found on the grounds (or rather under the ground) of his estate. From the street, one would appreciate a nicely maintained manor, not ostentatious but clearly comfortable in a well organized manner. Beyond the hedges sits a unique and quite magical compound, in its design and its welcoming aire. While guests of all type have visited the hermit in his home, enjoyed intimate to grand meals, and been entertained, tutored, healed... few if any have entered the Durm Library... but enough to spin some tales.

By all known accounts, the true work of Wizard Durm is done below the ground these days. Levels upon levels of laboratories, studios, and study halls exist. Within these ever expanding halls are not only the day to day musings, experiments and failures of an infinitely curious man, but also his memories. Carefully separated from journals, texts, scrolls and all sort of media, from pedestrian to alien, are the journals of a man with a memory span limited to 100 years. So every new day, the oldest day of 100 years drops away, into the books. And every day, new musings fill another...

So, if you were to travel down the leagues of shelves containing all manner of paper, skin, and stone, you will find entries older than his 'lucky' day. The Day When Immortality Started began just like any other day...
